You want your home to be safe and at best functionality not only to provide shelter to you and your family, but also for comfort.  In every room, you use electricity. So, how do you make sure that your family will not be a victim of circuit breaker trips or worse, fire from improper electrical wirings behind your walls?

When hiring an electrician, make sure the electrical company is licensed and insured, as well as the electrician himself. Be careful when using a company that cannot give you a price up front before the work starts. Any electrician working in your home should be drug-free and background screened, for your safety. Only do business with a company that offers a warranty of their work for at least a year.

As a home owner, it is good to stay knowledgeable for basic tips regarding the Electrical category.

- Never run drop cords under rugs

- Check your smoke detector batteries and Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFI's) twice a year. Test  your GFI-s by pressing the test button then press re-set.

-Be careful not to to over load a circuit or use the wrong size fuse or breaker.

- Never put an oversize lightbulb in a lighting fixture.

- It is best to baby-proof your home, when small children are living in it.

- For electronic equipments, a home surge protector is highly recommended.

- For older homes, they may not be proper;y grounded and should be checked by an electrician.

Comparison shopping should be based on the company's experience, reputation, price value, and reliability. Do not base your decision JUST because the company offered the lowest price of all proposals.
