Many garage door companies work out of their own garage. Be careful with these kind of pretenders. It is best to hire professional and certified technicians.

Below are some tips to guide you when repairing or installing your garage door.

- Your garage door maybe the biggest moving object in your home and provides security to your family, so ask for the remote control and automatic options.

- Garage door parts and products can vary and are different, be sure to understand and seek different options most suited to your lifestyle and security, not just the lowest price.

- A good contractor should be able to tell you what product he will likely use for your project, and he should be able to provide you with options.

- When requesting for the quote, take note if all "inclusives" are listed for the total project cost. Some companies provide quotes that do not include aspects required to complete the project.

- As a company would hire any employee, always ask for references, in this case, customer references, who had projects similar to yours.

- Do not allow non-professionals to work on garage door springs. This can cause serious injuries that may lead to lawsuits.

- The company or contractor installing your garage door is just as important as the materials/products you choose. Poor installation may result to poor performance and repeat repars.

- A contractor should have a good communication with you, and show best enthusiasm for your project, by suggesting to work with specific concerns and within budget.

- Everything should be in writing, including promised warranties, guarantees and promotions.

Lastly, remember not to help the contractors and Do not lend them your tools. Why? Because if a worker is hurt while you are helping them, or while using one of your tools, you may be liable via a "tort claim" by the contractor.
